I have to break up this data nerdery with a reminder that there is a cure for universal malaise I encounter every day. I feel it, you feel it, the kids feel it. It's an emotional weight, driven by forces outside of your office. But we aren't helpless.
The problem isn't that you aren't a good doctor. You’re a great doctor. The problem is that you’re trying to run a (multi)million dollar business in the margins of your 15-minute well-visit slots. Meanwhile, your government tells you that you're actually causing harm and the payors act like organized crime.
I know. We all know. We all feel it.
The "Working IN vs. Working ON" Trap
Many of you feel trapped in your practice. You are the engine, the transmission, and the windshield wipers. But who is driving the car? Who is looking at the map to see if there’s a cliff three miles ahead?
This is why Dr. Katrina Skinner (and I) created Pediatric CEO. She and her team have put together a schedule that is actually... well, intensive. These aren't the same speakers you see at other events (ok, some of them are - like me). Check out the schedule.
One Fun Fact
This year is a bit different. On Saturday, we’re doing a collaborative day with the Women in Pediatrics Retreat. This means more perspectives, more networking, and frankly, a much better party on Saturday night at Julep Point.
My Experience
I remember the first year of Pediatric CEO. I was excited about the mission and content, but I just wasn't sure how it would land. Would it be worthwhile? And before we'd even completed the first full day, one attendee teared up when she told me she had prepared her resume to quit medicine before the conference. She left with a plan to save her practice instead. Another doctor (a PCC client, even!) told me he'd already decided to sell his practice and walk away before the conference, but he'd totally changed his mind and couldn't wait to get back and get things right.
Don't wait until you're ready to quit. Give yourself three days to act like the CEO your practice needs.
